Specialist One to One Study Skills Support for ADHD, Dyslexia and other Specific Learning Differences

If you’re studying in higher education and have a diagnosis of a Specific Learning Difference – ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia – you may be eligible for funded one-to-one study support through Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).

I work as a Specialist Study Skills & Support Tutor (SS-SPLD), supporting students to study more effectively, reduce overwhelm and build confidence in a way that works with their brain, not against it.

What is Disabled Students’ Allowance? (DSA)?

DSA is government funding for disability-related study support. It is not a loan and does not need to be paid back.

DSA can help to cover the costs of specialist equipment, assistive technology and specialist study skills support – which is where I come in.

What is Specialist Study Skills Support?

DSA-funded support is available to help level the playing field. Whether your diagnosis is recent or you’ve had it for a long time, an important factor in your academic success is learning more about how you learn and then finding the best study methods for your profile. This support isn’t only for students who are struggling, it’s there to help you study more effectively and sustainably.

Specialist support will help you develop study strategies that work for your learning profile.

Together, we’ll create a completely personalised plan based on your goals, challenges and course demands.

This isn’t proofreading or subject tutoring, instead we focus on how you study so you can become a more confident, independent learner.

Hi, Chloe

Qualified Specialist Study Skills & Support Tutor, author of The Return to Study Handbook and your study strategy cheerleader.

I returned to education as an adult so I know what it’s like to do the ol’ study / work / life juggle. I’ve been supporting students like you for over 10 years so I know exactly how to help you study in a way that works for your course, your life and your brain.

You don’t need to be “fixed” and I’m not going to tell you that you need to try harder or study for longer. Instead, my aim is to help you understand how you learn best, to play to your strengths and find the study methods that make everything feel more doable.

I will always share advice that’s practical, personalised and realistic for your life – and my support will always be warm, non-judgemental and full to the brim with “I’m rooting for you” energy.

How to access support with me through DSA

  • Step 1: Apply for DSA

Apply through Student Finance and submit evidence of your diagnosis (more info here)

  • Step 2: Attend your Needs Assessment

This is an informal meeting to identify what support you can get for your studies, funded by DSA – it’s not a test.

  • Step 3: Request me as your provider

If you think we would be a good fit, at your Needs Assessment, let them know you would like to work with me (Chloe Burroughs Ltd) for Specialist One to One Study Skills Support (SS-SPLD).

  • Step 4: Receive your DSA2 letter

Once approved, you’ll receive confirmation of your funded support and provider arrangements.

  • Step 5: Start support with me

Email me using the contact details on your DSA2 letter and we’ll arrange your sessions. Your support is funded through DSA, so there’s nothing you need to organise or pay for directly.

  • Step 6: Feel more confident and in control of your studies

Together, we’ll find study methods that actually work for your brain, so studying feels less overwhelming, assignments feel more manageable and you stop feeling like studying is taking over your life.
